Welcome, we want to thank you for taking time to visit our web page!
First UMC is a Christ-centered, biblically-rooted congregation located in downtown Jacksonville with a heart for God and a heart for the City. We look forward to welcoming you!
We realize that the experience of being new usually brings with it a host of questions. Some of the more commonly asked questions are:
“Tell me about FUMC”…First United Methodist is a historic church in downtown Jacksonville with a 187-year history. Our desire is to find ways to build upon our past as we lean in to the future with a commitment to reach the City of Jacksonville and surrounding communities with the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. “Tell me about worship”…First UMC offers one worship experience on Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. in the main sanctuary. It is a traditional worship service that allows worshippers to encounter God in a way that is informed by the ancient traditions of the church while remaining relevant to life in the 21st century.
“Tell me about the Pastor”…Pastor Dave is new to First UMC, having arrived in July 2010. He has a passion for biblical preaching and is blessed to work with an outstanding team of staff and lay leadership at First Church. He and his wife Debbie are both in their mid-40’s and are excited to be a part of what God is doing at First UMC.
“What makes First UMC different from other churches in Jacksonville?”…At First UMC there are 2 things that make us unique. The first is our setting in downtown Jacksonville. We are strategically placed in the heart of downtown where we can make a difference in the lives of those who cross our path on a daily basis, whether they are professionals in the marketplace or the struggling poor looking for hope and help. The second is our rich history. As a church that is 187 years old we not only have the advantage of being well known and well established in the City of Jacksonville, we have deep connections within the United Methodist Church in the state of Florida.
