Hanging Out with Jesus is a weekly one hour and ten-minute bible study that is part of our Call to Biblical Manhood at First United Methodist Church. After we open with songs, we use 30-minute bible study videos featuring Patrick Morley and small-group discussion questions (for the remaining 30 minutes) provided to us by our parent organization, The Man in the Mirror, a twenty-five-year-old interdenominational men's ministry located in suburban Orlando. Our value proposition is that we help men change their lives by connecting the dots between the Bible and their daily lives.
The bible study itself is but a small part of the overall MIM ministry, whose central vision is to engage every man in America with a credible offer of Christ and with resources to grow in his faith. MIM and its founder, Dr Patrick Morley, work toward this end by serving pastors and leaders who share their passion to reach men. Their resources are utilized by thousands of churches and small groups worldwide; we sincerely hope you will visit their web sites (maninthemirror.org, mimsummit.org, and disciplemen.com) where you can more fully understand the incredible scope of this ministry. United Methodist Men has been a major stakeholer and strategic partner for many years. We also have books, workbooks and training materials for women and families, so women are always welcome to attend on Thursday mornings.
We meet every Thursday from 6:50AM to 8AM in the Fellowship Hall. We have free coffee and pastries, a large-screen TV, round tables for group discussion, and plenty of bibles and other MIM books and materials.
But mostly what we have is a spirit of welcomeness, fellowship, and love. Our mission is to teach and support men (and women) to be faithful leaders in their marriages, families, businesses, churches and cities and to teach them to equip others to do the same.
We are all about transformation and multiplication; you can call us "senders" because we expect our group to witness to our centers of influence once the 8AM bell rings. We are nondenominational and we welcome non-christians, new christians, christians who want to be mobilized, men on the fringe, men who are seeking, men who are hurting. And we have adopted the Koinonia Covenants of our soulmates in the many MIM groups in Northeast Florida: affirmation, availability, regularity, prayer, openness, honesty, confidentiality, and accountability.
Come join us on our journey! For more information, call George Gurgone at 904-887-9267, or tune in www.maninthemirror.org.
